Margill and Jurismedia inc.

Jurismedia, as its name suggests, has its origins in the legal community. Its first product Logicalc, was developed in 1992 simply to compute interest following a judgment. Because of the legal profession's very peculiar needs that include variable interest rates and irregular situations, the software evolved over the years as an extremely flexible tool known as Margill, whose computations include regular and irregular loans, mortgages, leases, lines of credit, investments, present value computations, etc.

Margill evolved to service a wide variety of industries including accounting, banking, leasing, collection, real estate, construction, financial planning, investing. It's clients in 23 countries and counting, include large and small law offices, judges, accountants, government, cities and towns, banks, credit unions and other lenders, mortgage brokers, trade unions, insurance, leasing, construction and land development companies, small and large corporations and even individuals with peculiar needs.

With a team of seasoned programmers and experts in interest calculation, Jurismedia works very closely with its clients to constantly improve its products and product line. The company offers the following products and services:

  • More than 125 historical and constantly updated interest and indexation tables to be used in its software. These include central bank rates (prime, fed funds, overnight rates, repo), pre and post judgment rate for all US states and Canadian provinces, Europe and Australia. A subscription service is available for these tables.

Jurismedia has its head office in Montreal, Canada and an office in Newark, Delaware. Most sales are direct sales since its products are off-the-shelf and very user-friendly. The company also offers consultation services for customized solutions.

Its principal, Mark Gelinas, attorney and MBA, wrote the much acclaimed White Paper on Interest Calculation, a hands-on paper whose purpose is to have market participants understand that interest calculation is not simply keying in variables, but implies many other fundamental elements, many of which have been forgotten over time.
